ABOUT ANTOAN

Antoan is a Kosovar artist and photographer based in Belgium whose work has always circled one central question: identity. Who we are, who we are allowed to be, and who we become when we claim that right for ourselves. His practice centers LGBTQIA+ lives, feminist thought, and the politics of visibility. Underlying all of it is a single impulse: to leave a true record of people as they actually are, for the generations that come after.

His project ylberDylber, whose title weaves together the Kosovar words for "rainbow" and "beautiful man," the latter long weaponized as a slur, documents young queer people from Kosovo: the first generation to openly claim their identity in a place where doing so remains an act of courage.

In I CAN HEAR YOU BREATHE BUT NOT YOUR WHISPERS, he photographed queer Belgian youth between sixteen and twenty-two. Young people who already know who they are, and carry that knowledge with a quiet certainty the world rarely pauses to recognize.

For PATRIARCHALIS, which led to a collective exhibition featuring, among others, Marina Abramović, he turned the camera on patriarchal structures within a couple who are none other than his own parents, a gesture as intimate as it is unflinching.

In 2004, he obtained a diploma in CG design.
In 2009, he earned a master's degree from the Fine Arts Academy in Visual and Spatial Arts.
